Water Car from Srilanka!!

Posted by admin as Petrol Prices Australia

This video is in Sinhalese.
Description:
Young Thushara Priyamal Edirisinghe may have the ideal solution for your fuel problem which keeps worsening with every hike in world oil prices.

Thushara, a 25-year-old from Athurugiriya, is the inventor of what could be a ground-breaking technology of powering a car by water, using an extremely low amount of electricity.

Thushara Priyamal Edirisinghe, the inventor of the generator capable of powering a vehicle using water explaining the technology behind his creation to Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka at Temple Trees yesterday.

According to the the young inventor, the generator he has designed is capable of running a motor car for 80 kilometres using only one litre of water, without any danger to life or any impact on the environment.

The energy required to power the vehicle is produced by the splitting off of H2O (water) into separate Hydrogen and Oxygen molecules, of which the former is burnt according to a specified ratio to produce the energy needed to power the engine.

“The technology of using water to produce hydrogen gas has been existing for the past 60 years. In certain countries, water-powered vehicles have also been produced using Hydrogen found in water.

The specialty of my invention is its ability to produce this energy from water with a minimal electric current of barely 0.5 amperes, which was not possible earlier,” Thushara says.

A product of Christ King College, Pannipitiya, Thushara, on his test run of the water-powered car, has travelled all the way to Anuradhapura and back on mere three litres of water, a journey that would have cost several thousand rupees on a petrol or diesel vehicle.

“This generator could be fixed to any petrol or diesel vehicle with suitable adjustments depending on their cylinder capacity. While Hydrogen is 1000 times faster than petrol, the exhausts of water-powered vehicles consisting of water vapour are also entirely eco-friendly. Using water as opposed to oil that react with lubricating oil would also extend the life of the vehicle,” he adds.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka who met the talented youth at Temple Trees yesterday extended the Government’s fullest support to his efforts to introduce the water-powered car to the Sri Lankan market.

The Premier also pledged to provide facilities for the venture including a plot of land to carry out the conversion of fuel-powered engines to water-powered ones, bank loans etc.

“A number of foreign companies from the United States, Australia and Korea approached me to buy the technology behind this invention. But, I have decided to put my creation to use in way that helps the development of my country,” Thushara said.

How much was gas prices when you started driving ?

Posted by admin as Gas Prices

How old were you and what year was it ?
Also how much was the gas prices on average ?

The year was 1966. I was seventeen and the cheapest place in town sold gas for 27.9 cents a gallon. Most places were a couple of cents higher, and I avoided them. The minimum wage was $1.25 an hour.

The world is running out of oil and there is no good substitute. Sorry.

Biofuels are a fantasy, just like wind power. Try running your car on coal or nuclear, or maybe put a solar collector on the roof.

Empty is empty, just like an empty bank account. Your rich uncle isn't going to die again and leave you more.

Do you think the petrol price rise is reasonable ??

Posted by admin as Petrol Prices Australia

In Australia the base price for a ton iron ore , that we are exporting to China and Japan has gone up 83%
If our prices for commodities has been going up as much as it has , isn't fair that we pay the piper as well ??

No I don't.

The people most affected in Australia are those who live in rural areas. There is no weekly cycles, no competition from other service stations and no public transport so most families have one or two cars to get anywhere.

Are fuel prices likely to keep rising?

Posted by admin as Fuel Prices

Is it a good idea for me to fix my energy prices until 2012? I really wish I’d done it 6 months ago, my electricity bill is over £200 for this quarter! I just don’t want to be scared into fixing my tariff and then see fuel prices come down, leaving me stuck with these ridiculous charges.

No more than likely bills will go down not up and there is a fee for leaving that particular tariff.

Next – stop paying quarterly for your energy – get on to a monthly direct debit.

Finally use an internet comparison site Uswitch or moneysupermarket are two good ones and compare.

I like pay £20 a month for my eclectic – that is £240 a year (yes I did freeze before the increase and yes I turn everything off) but that is still just over what you are paying a quarter.

Running Your Engine on Recycled Veggie Oil

Posted by admin as Petrol Prices Australia

CHEN:
And vegetable oil can be used in diesel car engines as a cheaper and greener alternative to fossil fuel. It is fast growing in popularity among Australians. Here is the story of a DIY biofuel user.

STORY:
For Sean Wright from Berowra in northern Sydney, Australia, fueling his car is not a matter of visiting his local petrol station. Instead, he fills his car up at home with an unlikely alternative –vegetable oil.

With a little know-how, making the switch to vegetable oil is a relatively easy process. Wright filters his oil in barrels, then converts the filter in his engine.

Wright says vegetable oil runs more smoothly and quietly than diesel.

When he needs more, he simply visits his local restaurant or fish and chip shop to pick up their unwanted oil.

[Sean Wright, DIY Biofuel User]:
“It’s cheaper so I can get the vegetable oil from the restaurants– they don’t want it so they give it to me for for free. There is quite a lot of effort involved with the filtering and the conversion of the vehicle but there’s a number of reasons and the environmental side is definitely one of them.”

Robert Fyvie from the Biofuel Users ociation in Australia says he’s noticed a rise in the number of people using vegetable oil and bio-diesel.

[Robert Fyvie, Biofuel Users ociation]:
“Particularly in the last month, there has been a lot more interest in bio-fuels as peak oil is hitting and the price of oil is going up.”

However the carbon emissions saved through the use of biofuel can be offset if forests are cut down to make way for biofuel crop plantations.

[Mark Disendorf, Environmental Studies Lecturer]:
“Overseas in Indonesia and Malaysia and other parts of Southeast Asia they are clearing vast areas of jungle and planting palm trees so they can produce lots of biodiesel for the European market from palm oil. But this is really devastating. Clearing the jungle not only destroys the biodiversity, the animal life and plant life but it also produces very big amounts of greenhouse gas emissions so this is not an ecologically sustainable pathway.”

It seems for the moment, though, biofuel is certainly sustainable at a local level, like Wright’s. The oil he uses is waste, and was going to be thrown out anyway, so he can drive happy knowing he is helping reduce his carbon footprint.
