Conservativesaregood, I agree with you, the average income has not increased and that’s what’s making oil prices ‘appear’ excessive. Unfortunately, the best time to get a pay raise is when the economy is doing well, not when we are about to enter a recession. I think the high price of gas is going to make this a severe recession because the average consumer is not going to have as much money to spend on other commodities. People’s budgets are already stretched to their limits.

TooManyBattleScars, if the Saudis refine the oil themselves they can probably buy out one of the big oil companies and use their gas stations to sell us their oil directly. Who knows, we may actually see some ‘competition’ back in the oil industry, something that I suspect we haven’t had for a long time. The price of gas may actually go down!

Every dollar that we spend to fill our gas tank is a dollar that won’t be spent elsewhere in the economy. People are already starting to spend less money including cutting back on their driving. Eventually this is going to result in a massive slowdown and cause a recession. Oil prices will fall as the economy slows down.

Saudi Arabia is currently working on building gas and diesel refineries. Do you guys even understand what this means? Soon there will be no more crude oil from them and they will only sell us gas and diesel, if everyone thinks fuel prices are high now, wait until this starts. They will suck us dry. The environmentalist love these fuel prices, they should stick to their words and quit driving gas operated cars, hypocrites. You will all be happy when Iraq starts being drilled for oil.
