1) Lowering the price of Gas/Oil cuts into the profits of the very people funding the Republican Presidential race (RNC)
2) The price of oil directly affects the value of the U.S. dollar (investments in oil futures etc) and thus the profits and capital gains of the funding sources of the Republican party.
