How many of you really think fuel prices can be controlled by government and gas companies?
Posted by admin as Fuel Prices
It's amazing and troubling that their is so much ignorance in this country. Knowbody seems to understand how things are priced. If politicians say their going to lower prices… they are treating you as a moron. Other than killing the taxes, they have no control. None. Zip
I thought the president had a giant 'world control panel' in the White house. When Bush wants his oil pals to make more dough, he just presses the 'raise oil prices' button on his control panel. I heard he has a blister on his finger from pressing it so much lately. However, If Obama gets elected, he'll have a 'lower oil prices' button installed on his control panel, and we can then go back to happily burning gas in our giant SUV's like there's no tomorrow. Right?
Not me. The price of gas is determined by supply and demand. The problem with high gas prices is not about oil, even though it is high, it is the fact that the oil companies are having to refine it into gas with fewer facilities and old facilities.

You're naaive if you think they're not.
Gas prices started skyrocketing again just after the stimulus checks started arriving in the mail.
I'd have to call that one heck of a coincidence.
If they cut back on production, that tightens supplies, demand goes up, and price goes up.

Government? I don't know. If fuel is in that short of supply, then let's get on with the rationing, or closing stations two days a week. Gas companies? Hell yes, they can. Anyone that believes that they can't are the ignorant ones. Remember when it took more time to repair the refineries? Prices went up. Did it really take more time? Never did before. A hurricane is threatening from 500 miles away. Let's get our people off the Gulf a week before it is due. Presto! Higher prices. Gas companies can create fake shortages any time they want. And our government doesn't even bother to investigate. There is no pricing competition between gas stations. As far as I know it is the only industry where that is happening. Collusion? Surely the hell not!

I agree, but it's not surprising. The same people that believe this garbage are the same ones believing government will solve all of their problems. I mean come on…Michelle Obama says Barack will fix our broken souls and these people eat it up. Had they taken a basic economics class in high school (or paid attention) they'd know this. I'm 15 and know this but I also am not depending on government to save me either.
