Is it possible to affect the higher fuel prices by reducing our consumption 10 to 15 percent?

Posted by admin as Fuel Prices

I believe the escalation of prices since Katrina is a hoax, so I wonder if any reduction in demand will bring it back down. It is wrong for Exon to profit in the multi billions and claim their 'investing' to explore other alternatives. What can we do individually to fight back?

Definitely. Gas prices are generally lower in places that have good available mass transit and other alternative transportation. If more people would cut down on their fuel consumption by driving less and getting more fuel efficient vehicles, they would not only save money up front but bring down the total price of gas.

To Scott B. above. The government does not make anything off of gas taxes. Gasoline taxes are used for building roads. Building roads is a subsidy to the oil and auto-making industry.

Absolutely. Everyone should drive smarter and with reduced consumption comes reduced demand which brings reduced prices.

Nothing. Apply KY jelly and take it.

Agreed.

Prices shot UP when platforms were "damaged" during Katrina. They are all now back online and our prices haven't dropped.

There is no reason for Americans to be paying this much for gasoline. We're being lied to.

They have us in one heck of a bind and our Leaders, the President and Congress are doing nothing about it. They could stop this crap if only they would through over site committees. I do think that people will start to really raise hell if it just keeps going up. We the people are going to have to do something to force a change.

The oil is running out and cars are going electric the price of gas will keep going up till it is all gone.

They are using their profits to develop the next monopoly in energy sources. Notice how they control the supply…

So far everything has failed that we have tried. I think that prices will go down though. It happened before when people would only put 20.00 in the car instead of topping it off. Even though we are doing it because we can't afford to fill up the result is the same. as surplus. We can hope anyway.

Exon doesn't control the price of oil. It's an internation market. The demand has increased primarily because of the Chinese. Their consumption has tripled in the last 10 years and it's the most populated nation on Earth. We still pay less than we did for gas in the fifties when you take into account the rate of inflation. By the way, the federal government makes more taxing gas than the oil companies make in profit. The only way to bring down the price is to tap the resources in the US. 95% of our shoreline is untapped, and there are vast quantities in Alaska. But, so far environmental legislation has prevented us from drilling despite the fact that oil is our life blood and environment disasters are quite rare. Sorry to hit you in the head with reality, but you deserved it.

I watched a television program that stated our consumption in the US has decreased in the last six months, but the prices did not reflect that. The reason given is that consumption worldwide is not decreasing, but increasing. If the consumption for the entire planet decreases, then price should as well. Don't see that happening any time soon.

I saw this in another similar question or in a forward quite sometime ago.

Launch a National campaign to boycott one of the major players demanding they reduce the cost.
When they do, the others will have to follow suit.

The main problem in the US is that it lacks the refining capacity to meet its demand.
That means you are paying more for it to be refined off shore.
