Pat Murphy — Beyond Sustainability: Surviving Peak Oil – 1/4
Posted by admin as Fuel Prices
http://localfuture.org
How long can this global oil supply level be maintained? When will the decline in oil supply begin? How will that impact already rising gasoline prices, oil prices, food prices and the struggling state of the world economy?
To address shrinking fossil fuel supplies, increasing CO2 emissions, and rising global inequity we need to make immediate and drastic cuts to our energy use. Learn about viable curtailment strategies for food, housing, and transportation, why most “sustainable” and “green” techniques are inadequate, and how we can create cooperative low-energy communities to survive.
Pat Murphy is the Executive Director of Community Solutions in Yellow Springs, Ohio, co-writer and co-producer of the film, “The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil” (2006) and author of the forthcoming book “Plan C: Community Survival Strategies for Peak Oil and Climate Change.”
The International Conference on Peak Oil and Climate Change: Paths to Sustainability explores the root cause of rising gas prices, global warming, biodiversity loss and other indicators of global unsustainability.

Sure, I just sent …
Sure, I just sent you a YouTube message with the URL.
I’m now posting the other vids as 640×480, even though it is widescreen, because the YouTube machine will create a 640×480 version called “hi def” that way, and the slides are easier to read.
Oh the joys of learning new tools!
No problem. Thanks!
No problem. Thanks!
By the way, do you …
By the way, do you have a copy of the slides used here? Or do you know where to get them? It’s too hard to read the charts and points on the screen because the video blurs them. Thanks!
I’m sorry to have …
I’m sorry to have implied this… but sometimes I just get too caught up in the negativism. Also sometimes the negative voices are the loudest… I certainly look for solutions. Keep up the good work!
Actually, most …
Actually, most groups looking into peak oil are working on solutions. ASPO, Community Solution, Local Future, Transition Towns, and the Post Carbon Institute are all very focused on the solution side of peak oil.
Actually, Calvin …
Actually, Calvin College itself did not provide any support (financial or otherwise) for the conference. Calvin was simply the venue with whom we contracted. The event was hosted by Local Future (you can google that to see the web site).
It certainly was a good venue though, and the good service did a great job with the lunches. The FAC building is also a very good choice for conferences, and the entire staff did a fantastic job helping with the conference, so kudos for that.
Seriously, peak oil …
Seriously, peak oil is scary stuff, but I’m glad at least some people are not giving up and expecting a total “die-off” but instead, looking for solutions.
Go Calvin College!
Go Calvin College!
