How does a gas station know when to either raise or lower gas prices?
Posted by admin as Gas Prices
I know that it has a lot to do with market fluctuation but how does a gas station know when to change the price? And who gives them the order to change it? And why does it change so often?
I just generally want to know the process a gas station takes in order to change their prices.
They just know when do it! Plus I think the market might have something to do with it. Plus the super panty just knows those things!
It usually has to do with the wholesale price per gallon of fuel that they are going to put in their tanks. Typically a station may get filled every day if it only has a small capacity. They could change their price every day or twice a day but typically they will be close to other stations in the region on price.

Normally they change on Delivery of the next Refill, either up or down, depending on the market.

it all depends on the market and the parent company and the state laws that govern the gas station when i was a manager at a service station we would change our prices according to our competition a large corporate gas station across the street, sometiems we made profit on gas sometimes we were paying so you could pump your gas, also if you were a large corporate gas station they would dictate what your prices should be just like walmart and the grocery store, and in some states they have a law that says you can only earn a certain percent per gallon as profit so it really all depends. but there is no way of know what evil bastard actually sets the price of gas in the united states, because if you think that the gas station is only making a penny or two worth of profit on every gallon of gas then how are they making any money without convience stores or other services
