Why does gas prices go up fast and go down slow and who tells the gas stations to raise their prices?
Posted by admin as Gas Prices
I realize big oil controls prices by controlling their production but if oil is around $50 and $60 a barrel then why is gas going up?
The suppliers tell the gas stations how much the gas is going to cost and then the gas station owners set the price. The gas station owners have to make a living also.
To make darn sure the rising costs don't cut into the companies profit margin.
Makes you sick eh?
Quick to raise em because they don't want to lose the profits, slow to reduce them because by then they've got everyone 'used' to the idea of higher prices.
The govornment gets a cut too (tax) so same thing – anthing that the companies have to pay out gets added on to the cost of the fuel to joe public.

This works out great for us, doesn't it?

It is pure greed! The oil companies and stores don't care anything about us poor working class people or students. One day they will kill the golden goose {us} tHEN THEY WILL PULL THEIR HAIR OUT BY THE ROOTS.

Yup, it's greed. Gas companies will rise their prices as high as they can. Then, history will repeat itself and gas companies will see that people aren't buying as much and will be forced to slowly bring down the price again.
I would say America hasn't recover yet, but gas companies want us to think it got better and started to rise prices again, but later it will come down again. We just have to wait it out.

Big Oil price-gouging greed—pure and simple. Oh, Big Oil is quick to spit out some complicated, transparent cover-up LIE that insults the intelligent consumer—and they're not running out of creative answers anytime soon.
Right now, they're aiming for the annual Summer Vacation season—itching to ca$h in big on what they hope are multi millions of vehicles on interstate roadways, hopping from home to vacation hot spot.
Only THIS time, projections hold that the majority consumer base core will be on "staycation" OFF the roads—and that scares Big Oil, big time—yet another reason to jack up per gallon gas prices.
Last year—angry fed up motorists organized nation-wide a "boycott sting" and kept the cars / trucks / SUVs home for several days—and it reflected poor gas profits; THAT woke up Big Oil.
Might be time to stage another boycott soon.
