Cars using water to make Hydrogen for power

A bit of a follow up story from a couple of weeks ago about those Aussie blokes and their old Falcon and the use of hydrogen as a feedstock coupled with petrol that is claimed to produce savings.
Unfortunately, the first law of thermodynamics states quite clearly that the energy generated by recombining the hydrogen and oxygen through combustion can only ever be equal to the amount of energy it took to separate them.
