Petrol prices increased in 2007, but SUV sales also increased in Australia.. why is this???

Posted by admin as Petrol Prices Australia

Most of the SUVs run on Diesel that's why their sales increased as people neglevted petrol cars.

I wouldn't complain. Alot of us are a lot worse off!
A litre of petrol in the UK costs about £1.14 at the moment =S
and Diesel is about £1.19.
I was living in NewZealand last year, so while they were all compaining about fuel prices I was laughing my way around the country in my very cheap to run Daihatsu.
=p

Sorry. That wasn't helpfull at all.

Despite what greenpeace may tell you, SUVs do have a purpose. I would imagine moreso in inland areas than coastal areas. Not everyone who owns an SUV is a cell phone chatting yuppie. Farmers need SUVs to haul supplies, livestock, and even their families to and from their farms. Large families (of 6 or more) are left with fewer fuel efficient options (station wagons or minivans), and SUVs prove valuable to them as well.

Imagine if you have a family of 7. You could buy 2 $30,000 hybrids, each getting 40 mpg, or 1 $25,000 SUV that gets 18 mpg. True, you are using 10% more fuel, but the money you save will buy you thousands of gallons of gas.
