why does everyone complain about rising fuel prices?
Posted by admin as Petrol Prices Australia
I seen a survey that said petrol has risen 130% over the last 20years and things like bread and milk have risen about 240%.. so petrol has actually risen least over the years,,
australia petrol is $1.37 per litre.. Milk $1.90 per litre.. coke $2.50 for a 300ml can and a litre bottle of water $3.00.
how many gallons of milk do you buy weekly, how many gallons of petrol/gasoline do you buy weekly
nobody buys 20 gallons/liters etc of milk a week

they complain because at least in America that will impact everything. Gas is needed to truck goods to the store, they pay more, the price goes up, etc. It is also a good that is bought on its own. Milk is usually bought with other products so it is not noticed as much. Gas you are watching the price go up as you pump more nto the car.

Easy,
The price of fuel has jumped up more quickly than the other commodities. Bread and milk has steadily increased while fuel just a mere 12 years ago had bottomed out below $1.00 per gallon (approx $.25 a liter) now it is over 3 times that much and has been susceptible to quick spikes from time to time.

When fuel prices rise the cost of most other things will rise also since it takes a lot of fuel to haul merchandise and groceries to stores. Most semis are lucky to get 8-10 mpg.

Because we can get coca-cola on sale for 20 cents a litre in the states and milk is optional, and a litre of water is like 15 cents if you get the store brand. But gasoline is like $3 a gallon, so I guess that's like 79 cents a litre, which is unusually high for us. But we need gasoline; public transportation is impractical except but in the most urban places, and rising fuel prices means that everything else rises, because everything has to be transported from one place to the other. Rising fuel prices means that utilities like electricity and water will be more expensive, fuel ties into everything, at least in the states it does. I'm not so sure about Australia, but if it is anything like it is here, milk and bread would be a bit cheaper if gas wasn't so expensive …

In addition to Nick's good answer is the fact that for many years the increase in fuel was at a steady slow rate. (like 2 or 3 % per year) Recently (in the USA) the price hike has been steep over the last year in the neighborhood of 30% or more. Plus, I don't have to buy a can of coke. I have no choice with gas.

You're right! Regardless, all that doesn't mean that rising fuel prices are an additional hardship for many people. That's why they complain.

The problem is why do the politicians have so much tax on one gallon of gas and why do these people who vote along party lines always vote for dummies like Kennedy

Well there are certain things that have risen up to ridiculous prices. For people who smoke, they complain about the prices of cigarettes. (Which I know have risen to extremely high prices). Gas is something that everybody that drives uses, and it takes a huge chunk out of our wallets. I don't know where some of your prices come from, but I suppose prices must be higher where you live. But people even complained about gas prices when they were under a dollar. I think as long as we use gas to fuel our transportation, people will complain.
