The headliners for June 5 were Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Tony Burke, author and lawyer Randa Abdel-Fattah, founder of Crikey Stephen Mayne and, The Australian newspaper’s foreign editor Greg Sheridan.

The Q&A panel received a range of different questions from punters all over the country. The primary concern of Cost of Living questions was petrol prices. Punters questioned the effectiveness of government policies concerning petrol prices and suggested alternatives to the high prices. The main concerns of Political Institutions and Process questions had to do with the behaviour of minority groups and females during question time in Parliament. Other questions concerned the influence of money on politics and the necessity of states. Economy questions were mostly specific questions related to Tony Burkes portfolio. Environment questions involved alternative energy use, the pulp mill, carbon emissions and deforestation. Overseas questions concerned Australias role in Asia, question relating to Barrack Obamas and Hilary Clintons role in the US presidential election, and the Palestine and Israel conflict. Education questions were mostly HECS related and public/private school funding issues. Social Issues and Civil liberties questions related to gay marriage and the animal abuse issues involved with live exports.

With the violent fluctuations in the market as of late, the only benefit of this economic crisis is that gas prices at the pump are going down as the price of crude drops. When the economy recovers and the price at the pump goes back up, why do Americans have to put up with this nonsense. Why do we have to be stuck between this unfair “rock and a hard place” situation. With the election and the economy, the fuel crisis has taken a distant back seat. This segment was from my TV show on the CN8 network over two years ago, before any one else in Washington or TV took up the charge. This episode was from April 28th, 2006 and nothing has change since then. I wanted to post this to remind all of you that although he matter isn’t getting press, it’s not going away. Even though we have a small temporary drop at the pump, the root of the problem still remains.

Truck Rally – Albany NY – Fighting High Fuel Prices

Truckers Convoy to Albany to Protest Fuel Prices

June 19, 2008

More than 100 truck drivers are taking part in a noisy downtown Albany rally to demonstrate against skyrocketing fuel prices that are staggering their industry.

About 110 tractor trailer cabs, dump trucks, flatbeds, and motorcycles jammed streets around the state Capitol building before a rally in an adjacent park. Truckers were blaring their horns before parking near another park blocks away from the rally site.

Governor David Paterson told the crowd he would support a summer gasoline tax “holiday” if fuel companies promise to pass the savings on to consumers, and he urged the truckers to take their protest to the headquarters of big oil companies.

The drivers gathered at truck stops in Washington and Montgomery counties before convoying to Albany Thursday morning.
