In times of rising fuel prices, Americans are shifting from gas guzzlers to smaller cars. How small? The Takeaway went to Scooter Bottega in Brooklyn, N.Y., to investigate.

New Fuel Price Hike Worries Indian Farmers

Indian farmers are feeling the economic pinch more than ever. It comes after fuel prices went up by 10 percent, making it harder than ever for the farmers to make ends meet.

The Indian government has just increased its fuel prices by 10 percent, the first hike of the year and the steepest ever.

This has not gone well with the consumers and especially with the farmers. The lack of monsoon rains are forcing them to irrigate their fields with tubewells that use up many liters of diesel.

[Rajendra, Farmer]:
The tubewell consumes around 15 to 20 liters of diesel, but now after the hike in prices of fuel, how will we arrange for so much money to run the tubewell? It will be very difficult for us, we will face heavy losses.”

The rise in transportation costs will also make food items prices go up.

[Bheema Chavan, Vegetable Vendor]:
“With the increase in fuel prices, the prices of vegetables will also go up.”

But the government has not increased the price of cooking gas and kerosene to protect the poor and middle-class.

Wow. Well the day has come when the Daytona left the garage. And it wasn’t from me or anybody pushing it. I hit the switch and it left by itself on 12 volts. Then I took it for a spin around the yard, but the resistance from the snow proved to be a little much for just one battery. If I drive it with any higher voltage, I will probably be hooking up the controller though, because I don’t think it’s good for the contactor to be doing that.
